"Tell me what you love, and I will tell you who you are." —Arsene Houssaye

My girlfriend Christina loves David Lynch films, mid-century modern design, and singing along to songs that get big. My mom loves genealogy, the garden in her backyard, and the birds that come to visit. My dad loves surfing, Neil Young, and David Letterman.

Let's see what happens when a group of strangers, nine including me, give that quote up top a try. Maybe it's an object rich in history, deeply meaningful to you. Maybe it's a hobby you've loved ever since you were a kid. Maybe it's a game you're reconnecting with or something new you found this year. Maybe it's a place that feels important or a story you can't wait to tell.

What common threads and common ground might we discover as people take turns sharing? When the first round of somethings gives way to a second, what pictures begin to emerge? What stories do we see ourselves in? And should we spend more time on the stuff we love?

What will all of this add up to and how will the whole night feel? I'm not sure but I'm excited to find out. Connection tends to be the magic of these small-group conversations. It can't be forced but if there is a formula, I'd say that vulnerability and curiosity make for a powerful combination. Safety and compassion are likely in the mix as well.

If you like the sound of all of this, I hope you'll join me Wednesday, July 15 at 7pm ET. We’ll connect via Zoom and the event will be limited to eight people, so that everyone gets time to share. It’s good to set aside three hours—the time flies by, I promise.

You will receive a Zoom link the day before we meet, followed by a word doc (aka road map aka game plan) just before our small-group conversation starts.

Please note: Due to the limited nature of these events, tickets are non-refundable.
