The event will be spread out over three days, instead of two. There will be more free time. There will be two group dinners instead of one. Noah Gundersen is playing a private concert!!
The HEART CAMP REUNION is open to everyone who attended/attends a HEART CAMP in 2018. That means everyone from each of the four workshops: Florida / January, Florida / February, Los Angeles / April, and Nashville / July. We have another HEART CAMP coming up next month in Nashville, so once that workshop wraps up, those folks will be invited as well.
Well, for one, Florida is pretty glorious in January. And we'll be in a hotel right on the beach. Beyond that, it feels right to go back to the start. HEART CAMP was born out of a desire to open up my life to people. Florida is where i'm from. It's where my family lives. It's where TWLOHA is based. On that note, the organization is in the process of buying a building, so you'll be invited to visit the new TWLOHA HQ.
The survey results came back even in terms of which month worked best for people. i like the idea of doing it close to the start of the new year, because people are already thinking about change. January is also when the first HEART CAMP workshop took place in 2018, so for the first group, they'll be coming back one year later. Last but not least, the hotel room rates are cheaper in January.
There will be new material, yes. We'll also revisit some of what we touched on the first time around. The best way i can explain it is that the reunion will be the continuation of the HEART CAMP conversation. Here's an example i hope makes sense: When i reconnect with friends, we don't make a rule that everything has to be new. We try to be honest and new stuff has a way of showing up. Just like the first time around, the people and stories in the room will help determine where the conversation goes. Also, there will be another survey, so that you can help determine what we focus on. i can promise that a lot of time and thought will go into deciding what we talk about, and how to make the most of our time together.
Yes! Two-time National Poetry Slam champion Sierra DeMulder is confirmed. Sierra led sessions at three of the five HEART CAMP workshops in 2018. When the survey results came back, Sierra’s session was the clear winner all three times. In addition to performing, Sierra will be teaching, inviting you to write and share, and answering your questions.
Matt Willingham has spent the last eight years living in Iraq, serving refugees and telling their stories with Preemptive Love Coalition. Along with his family, Matt recently moved back to the U.S. to start a new chapter. He will be working with a San-Diego-based organization that is focused on helping refugees as they resettle in the United States.
Matt is a gifted photographer and storyteller. His session will highlight stories from his time in Iraq and Syria. Transition has emerged as a major theme for the HEART CAMP community, and it’s safe to say Matt can relate. i’m excited for you to meet him and i’m excited for him to meet you.
The HEART CAMP REUNION will take place at Crowne Plaza Melbourne Oceanfront, which was the location of our first two workshops. Crowne Plaza is located 7 miles / 15 min from Melbourne Airport (MLB), and 63 miles / 1 hour from Orlando International Airport (MCO). The hotel offers a free shuttle from/to the Melbourne Airport. You can also of course take a taxi or Uber/Lyft. Orlando is a bigger airport with more nonstop flights. You can rent a car from either airport.Crowne Plaza Melbourne Oceanfront 2605 N. Hwy A1A Melbourne, FL 32903 We've negotiated a special room rate of $129 per night for HEART CAMP attendees. You are of course welcome to share a room with another attendee.
On Sunday, January 20, doors will open at 2pm and we’ll start at 3pm. There will be a group dinner that night. Monday, January 21, is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This will be a full day with a group dinner followed by Noah Gundersen in concert. On Tuesday, we'll wrap up by noon so that can people can take afternoon flights home.
You're welcome to arrive earlier or stay later (at Crowne Plaza), and the same room rate will apply. We imagine a lot of people will want to arrive on Saturday, January 19.
$500. Just like previous events, the registration fee does not include hotel. You get to attend all of the sessions, both group dinners, and the private concert with Noah Gundersen. We're trying to offer more value for the money this time around. That's why we're covering another dinner and bringing in Noah.
You're welcome to email firstname.lastname@example.org. We would also encourage you to connect with your HEART CAMP friends. If you want to go but can't afford it, tell someone. If you want to help someone be able to go, tell someone. Community means being willing to express our needs and doing our best to meet the needs around us. Most of us can relate to both ends of the spectrum.
We're here to help. Feel free to email email@example.com with any questions.
